Greenwich Park Revealed

Client

The Royal Parks

Division

London

Project Value

£2,000,000

Funded through the 'Parks for People' programme, this varied scheme included new build and refurbishment elements in the heart of a Grade I listed park.

The new Learning Space is a purpose-built, carbon net-zero facility located within ‘The Wilderness,’ designed for use by schools and community groups. This building exceeds standard Building Regulations in both airtightness and thermal performance, supporting sustainability goals.

Adjacent to the site, the existing Wildlife Centre has been adapted to provide welfare facilities and storage for the new Learning Space, making efficient use of current infrastructure. Additionally, the Tool Shed – formerly a barn – has been transformed into public toilets, a changing place, and a volunteer mess room. Once operational, the Tool Shed will also achieve carbon net-zero status.

The Ignatius Sancho Café, originally a residential lodge within the park, has been sensitively converted into a café, complete with a small extension and external yard. This refurbished building is now highly insulated and energy-efficient, performing 69% better than current Part L building regulations, contributing to the overall environmental performance of the site.
