The scheme enclosed an existing second‑floor balcony with a new roof and façade to create specialist accommodation for the school’s Speech and Language Resource Provision. It delivered two 48 sqm SEN classrooms, a flexible teaching/library space, a 40 sqm group room, and a 29.7 sqm subdividable resource space.
The vertical extension required complex logistics, including perimeter scaffolding, a roof hoist, and a counter‑weight system. Additional challenges included upgrading non‑compliant ventilation with fire dampers and coordinating works within a live school environment. By re‑sequencing activities and maximising the summer holiday period, the completion date was maintained.
The clad façade, extended roof and large windows created a bright, compliant facility supporting up to 24 children in a calm, flexible setting tailored to specialist needs.
