Enhancing Safety Through Strategic Fire Compartmentation Works
The project comprised comprehensive fire compartmentation upgrade works at Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School, delivered across a carefully planned three-phase programme to minimise disruption to the live educational environment. Works were primarily undertaken during holiday periods and focused on enhancing the building’s fire safety strategy through the installation of new fire-rated elements and the upgrade of existing systems.
The scope included the replacement and installation of fire-rated doorsets and glazed screens, the formation of new fire-resistant partitions, and the installation of a new fire-rated ceiling across the first floor to improve compartment integrity. Significant upgrades to building services were also carried out, including the installation of a new fire alarm system, upgraded lighting, and wider MEP improvements, alongside the removal of redundant plant and ductwork within roof spaces.
Additional refurbishment works were undertaken to further enhance functionality and compliance, including upgrades to internal finishes, decorations, and targeted improvements within adjacent areas of the school estate. Delivered under a JCT IC 2016 contract, the project required close coordination with the client and design team to ensure programme certainty, maintain safety standards, and achieve compliance with current fire regulations within an occupied school setting.
