Respecting Heritage while Creating Capacity at Trinity Church

Borras Construction Ltd was appointed by URC Thames North Trust to deliver enhancement works at Trinity Church in Harrow, aimed at improving capacity and functionality while respecting the character of the existing place of worship.

The project centred on the construction of a new viewing gallery within the church, designed to increase seating capacity and improve sightlines for the congregation. Delivering structural alterations within a live building required a sensitive and carefully coordinated approach.

Key elements of the works included contractor-designed piling, structural steelwork, and the installation of a bespoke timber staircase to provide access to the new gallery. These works were integrated into the existing structure with precision, ensuring compatibility with the original building fabric.

The scheme was delivered within an operational church environment, requiring detailed planning to minimise disruption to ongoing services and community activities. Strong collaboration with the client and stakeholders ensured works were carried out safely, efficiently, and with minimal impact.

Delivered under a JCT Minor Works with Design contract, the project was completed within a 20-week programme. The completed works have enhanced the usability and capacity of Trinity Church, providing a high-quality and sympathetic addition that supports the long-term needs of its community.
