Heritage Lottery Funded renovation of a Grade II* Listed town hall with the aim of increasing the overall usability of the building whilst retaining original features.

A major focus was the restoration of internal and external stonework, carried out by a specialist mason. Flagstones, previously hidden under concrete and floorboards, were carefully recorded, cleaned, and reinstated.

The ground floor will now include a bistro in the area of the original Georgian marketplace, with additional entrances at both ends of the building for improved access.

A new community space between the lobby and central hub offers a welcoming area for visitors, independent of the bistro. A staircase was removed to make room for a lift and new town council offices.

The first floor remains as the Civic Hall, now enhanced with a commercial kitchen and restored floors and ceilings. Oak panelling made from pews from St Peter’s Church adds a unique touch, supporting future community and event use.
